Artium

'Before the Feast'
When I was at college
one of the projects was doing business cards, and for some reason
I drew a vague character standing at a cliff edge holding a sword. At the
time I was fascinated by
various eastern myths, legends, and belief systems and had only just become
roped into doing some
small press comic art, so I had the idea at the back of my head to do some
sort of story based
on the character, and setting him in amongst these tales in some way.

It was shortly after
that I read about the Hindu belief of the Kali Yuga, the end of creation,
and the numerology behind the tale based on base 60. The progression of my
thinking led to the
idea that Kikan (as I named the figure) was the unwilling assassin who's murder
of the ninth
god-king would herald the beginning of the reign of the tenth; the Kali Yuga.

Other symbolic characters
and structures followed and I slowly built my own personal mythos
around the various concepts I came across from Taoism & Buddhism as well
as Hinduism and the
fatalistic outlook of many of the Nordic sagas.

Below are a couple of
images from my notes and outlines which I have started
looking at again with the idea of producing something more finished.

Recently Graeme Rose got
back in touch (I'd lost his address when I last moved),
years
ago he wrote a short score to go with the visuals for Artium, which I've still
got on tape.
I keep threatening to go back and work the story up further to a more finished
script,
getting back in touch with Graeme might just be the catalyst.
